Tinuiti Amazon Ads Benchmark Report Q3 2019 Released

By Tinuiti Team

Today we are excited to announce the release of the Tinuiti Amazon Ads Benchmark Report Q3 2019. This is the inaugural report in a quarterly series aimed at benchmarking key metrics across Amazon’s advertising suite, drawing from anonymized samples of the more than $400 million in ad spend Tinuiti has under management.

This edition of the report contains key high-level metrics across Amazon’s search and display advertising platforms, highlighting how key formats are performing as well as how international growth compares to that of the US. We also take a look at how recent campaign management capabilities such as Product Targeting are being wielded by advertisers, as well as how advertiser spending on Amazon’s demand-side platform (DSP) is transitioning to mid/upper funnel tactics.

Below are just a few of the highlights featured in the report. For access to more in-depth commentary on these and other trends affecting Amazon advertisers, download the report today.

Advertisers are increasing investment in the Amazon DSP, which allows brands to use Amazon targeting capabilities in showing ads not only on Amazon owned-and-operated web properties, but also those that it does not control. In Q3 2019, 32% of all Amazon DSP spend was attributed to ad impressions that appeared outside of Amazon owned-and-operated properties.

Sales revenue attributed to Amazon Sponsored Products grew 30% year-over-year, with spend increasing by the same figure driven by an 18% increase in clicks and 10% increase in cost-per-click (CPC). Increases in average CPC have been the norm in 2019, with growth never slipping below 8% as competition in the space continues to heat up.

International campaigns are outpacing those targeted at the US in terms of spend growth for both Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands advertisers. Sponsored Brands spend for campaigns targeted at countries other than the US more than doubled year-over-year in Q3 2019, with a whopping 48% increase in average cost-per-click nearly matched by a 47% increase in clicks for the quarter.
