We’ve been publishing the Comparison Shopping Engine Rankings (now The Comparison Shopping Report) since 2009, and by now, we’re pretty used to seeing Google Shopping at the top of our rankings.
It’s no secret that since Google made interpreting Retail Search Intent — purposeful buying search queries — a main priority and switched their free shopping engine to the paid Google Product Listing Ads program, retailers have never had a more effective (online) product advertising platform since the Amazon Marketplace.
In our Q1 2014 Comparison Shopping Report, 2 recent observations are cementing themselves as consistent realities:
- Nextag continues its free-fall from what was once a very prominent position at 2nd place (behind Google)
- Shopzilla and Pricegrabber have stepped up to solidify themselves as the most reliably profitable shopping channels behind Google Shopping
Of note are the results for conversion rate. Google’s conversion rate of 2.81% is 3rd best again for the second quarter in a row while Shopzilla finishes with the top post-Q4 conversion rate with 3.83%.
