Challenging times bring out creative solutions and some stand-out companies have shifted focus from profit to the well-being of their consumer base—and society as a whole. From the reassignment of manufacturing to address the need for medical supplies to providing free meals to children and the unemployed, businesses from all over the country are stepping up by simply doing the right thing.

We’d like to shout out a few brands that are doing their part to flatten the curve, combat the coronavirus and help those in need. 

 

Pivoting for the Greater Good: Eddie Bauer

 

Washington has been one of the hardest-hit states in the country when it comes to COVID-19, suffering from lack of hospital space and medical supplies. Not many businesses have the ability to manufacture ventilators or donate millions of dollars for pop-up hospitals, but Seattle-based Eddie Bauer saw a way they could contribute — by providing medical masks.

It’s not an easy task or decision for a retail company with temporarily closed stores to shift production from high-end outerwear to medical masks, but that’s exactly what President Damien Huang felt necessary to do. The apparel company is sending 20,000 N95 masks to the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services who is distributing them to hospitals throughout the state. We send our appreciation and gratitude to Eddie Bauer for doing its part and hope to see other clothing brands follow suit!

 

Social Impact Despite Social Distancing: e.l.f. Cosmetics

 

Let’s face it (pun intended), e.l.f. Cosmetics had an incredible 2019, culminating in a viral TikTok dance challenge that generated over 4.7 billion views. Not only did the original song “Eyes. Lips. Face.”  demonstrate e.l.f.’s creativity, it greatly expanded the company’s reach, and now that they have the eyes, they’re using the platform to help flatten the curve. 

tiktok adsThis up-and-coming beauty company decided to drop a remix of their hit song by adding one word. “Eyes. Lips. Face. Safe.” The tone and lyrics of the song have shifted to address the importance of washing your hands and social distancing, but the popularity remains the same. In these dark times, it’s awesome to see businesses bring a smile to the face of consumers while still remaining focused on this serious situation. 

 

We’re All In This Together: Binswanger Glass

 

If you’ve had to venture out for groceries or other essentials, you may have noticed clear, protective screens at cashier and reception stations to help limit human contact and keep the virus from spreading. Binswanger Glass has made this their top priority in this time of need to assist their community of Topeka, KS.

These unobtrusive and easy-to-install ‘sneeze guards’ are helping local shops stay open. It’s just another reminder of how even smaller businesses can make a difference.
