We relearned the alphabet. It now starts with the letter “G.” Google announced last week that it would be reorganizing itself into a holding company called Alphabet. Not a rebrand, but a classic, (billion dollar) restructure.
Google is once again changing the game, restructuring to better position itself moving forward. After all, there was no logical place at a search company for Nest, a digital thermostat company. Google Calico did seem a little out of place for a company that got its start with CPCs, CPLs and AOVs.
It seems like a strong move business-wise. In fact, Google stocks immediately increased after the announcement. We learned the alphabet in preschool. It’s the building blocks of our educational foundation. The new name hints at the fact Alphabet will play an inherent part of our life— one we will continue to use on a daily and regular basis.
So in the spirit of this new alphabet, let’s relearn the ABCs— according to Google Alphabet.
