Facebook Updates Pages: Shop & Services
Facebook recently announced the addition of two new sections for retailers with Facebook Business Pages including “Shop” and “Services”.
According to Facebook, “Until now, Pages have been largely the same for every business. Now we’re beginning to add new sections to Pages, so different types of businesses can prominently feature the information that is most relevant to their organization.”
Facebook Updates Pages with:
- Shop – The shop section will help retail businesses bring their products to the forefront of their Page.
- Services – The services section will allow professional service businesses to showcase a list of their offerings at the top of their Page.
For example, a shoe store can highlight the line of products they sell, helping people get to know their business faster.
According to Facebook over 1 billion people visit Pages every month. The latest update hopes to improve communication between businesses and customers and provide relevant product(s) to interested mobile shoppers.
“This is going to be a great feature that will let user find the information they need about a business,” Stephen Kerner Retail Search Manager at CPC Strategy said.
“This change will let users get more information from Facebook pages and give them more of a reason to actually interact with the page, instead of just interacting with the news feed.”
Because different types of organizations need to highlight different information or products to meet their goals, Facebook plans on building additional sections for Pages in the near future.
Facebook Pages Updates:
Call-to-Action, Layout, & Mobile Messaging
In addition to the shop and services section, Facebook has also made big strides to improve three other areas for businesses with Pages including:
Prominent Call-To-Action Buttons
Call-to-action buttons bring a retailer’s important objective to the forefront of its Page, whether it’s encouraging people to check out a feature product or browse an online shop.
The new call-to-action button on mobile is located directly under the Page cover photo in brighter and bigger font.
“We’re also testing several new call-to-action buttons on mobile, including “Call Now,” “Send Message” and “Contact Us,” making it easier for people and businesses to connect directly. Over time, we’ll add additional calls to action to further help businesses drive their unique goals,” Facebook said.
Improved Page Layout
Navigating via mobile is one of the most important aspects of online shopping. One way Facebook is improving their Pages layout is by giving each Page section a corresponding tab.
The new layout, due to launch in the next couple weeks will allow Page visitors to click on the tab(s) associated with each section to view more details. Additionally, the Home tab, located on the landing tab on pages will also contain each individual section so retailers can bring their most relevant information to the shopper faster and more efficiently.
Mobile Messaging with Facebook Pages
As a result of the mobile movement, shoppers want information quickly. They also want the ability to communicate directly with a retailer to find out more real time information about products, and other offerings. Pages recently added a new messaging feature to help open the lines of communication between shoppers and businesses.
“The messaging feature gives users a great way to communicate with a brand, but if the brand isn’t actually paying attention to their FB page, then this could put the brand in a negative light,” Kerner said.
